Amaral's is a great example of a local market that seems to have carved out a niche and serves its customers well. I've shopped there for many years because the fresh fish, meats and produce are of excellent quality and are not over priced. I still do go to Market Basket to stock up on prepackaged items like pasta, sauce, coffee, flour, etc. For most fresh items, particularly fish and meat, Amaral's is a better choice for me.
Fresh fish, a little more expensive than a few other seafood stores, but worth it in quality.
Always find what i nees there
Today I go there for many things and their prices are agreeable. There are plenty of things to choose from and it's fairly spacious within.
I remember coming here as a kid with my mom and I loved smelling the fried fish and chips they made fresh as well as all of the other selections they made daily. The owners would give me this chocolate umbrella that I ate when I got home and that made me happy.
All the variety you get at Market Basket without bumping carriages and waiting in long lines. Not to mention Amaral's ethnic Portuguese food is truly old world with lots of exotic choices. I had been shopping at Market Basket ever since they came to town and recently, because I forgot something, I stopped in at Amaral's on my way home only to find that they had an awsome variety of the conventional foods, as well as an ample supply of authentic Portuguese foods and ingredients.Even their prices are comparable. Needless to say, I'm sold on Amaral's. I'm now going to shop where I enjoy shopping.
